Let’s make Life Easier. Less Busy, more Being.
How much of your time do you spend being weighed down by the past or worrying about the future? Being in nature allows us to step off from our busy everyday lives and learn to be more present.
Walk & Talk is so helpful for a wide range of different issues whether it be workplace stress, anxiety and depression or relationship problems. When clients are feeling stuck, I’ve noticed that a change of environment and gentle movement seems to really open up new ideas and encourages a fresh perspective. It can feel very liberating, particularly if up until now you’ve been feeling helpless.
As with all my client work, you are in control, and you set the pace – fast, slow, or stationary.
Have you ever noticed that when people have difficult things to say to you, they often get it off their chest without looking at you directly? Well, that’s yet another benefit of walk & talk because we will usually walk or sit side by side. It’s more relaxing, less claustrophobic, or formal this way. I’m all for finding a way to encourage somebody who wouldn’t ordinarily try counselling to get the help they need.
Outdoors provides a perfect canvas to encourage you to be more grounded and learn to let go. For example, we may use your 5 senses to notice what’s going on in the here & now (i.e. bird sounds, colours, smells of soil or cut grass, touching bark or leaves etc). We may sit by the lake and do a simple mindfulness visualisation meditation. There are endless possibilities, and we will decide together, how you wish to use your therapy time with me.
Nature can have such a powerful effect of calming us down, releasing endorphins and lowering the levels of the stress hormone cortisol, and so improving your mood and anxiety levels. It’s so healing.
We will usually meet irrespective of the weather or season as long as you’re okay with this. This can be quite symbolic for grief and loss clients. Showing that no matter what happens, time (like us putting one step in front of the other) can move forward. We can notice the progress.
It’s no secret that I love being outdoors. Do come and share this with me.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.
You can also call me on 07597387434 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
